About the The Teacher Center and Regional Mentor™ System
The Teacher Center
SREB's Electronic Campus was launched in January, 1998 as an "electronic marketplace" of online courses and programs from the South's colleges and universities. The The Teacher Center was designed to provide learning opportunities from accredited colleges and universities that offered courses and programs that exceed SREB's Principles of Good Practice. By doing this, learners could be assured of the quality and integrity of the courses and programs available in the The Teacher Center, that comparable information would be provided to help learners in making decisions that best met their needs, and that learners could quickly and easily search the large database of course and program offerings. Those qualities have been retained since 1998.
The expanded The Teacher Center is a student services web site representing the public and independent colleges and universities in the SREB states. The The Teacher Center is a comprehensive source for information about higher education opportunities in the South whether traditional campus study or e-learning. It is a gateway to e-learning opportunities and online services designed to meet the unique needs of adult learners wishing to start, continue, or complete their education. It provides a simpler, friendlier one-stop place for adults to learn about and understand educational opportunities, to select campuses and/or e-learning opportunities that best match their needs, and to apply online and enroll in courses or programs. In addition, the The Teacher Center is an online resource for traditional-aged students with links to planning for, exploring, and applying online to hundreds of colleges and universities.
Regional Mentor™ System
The The Teacher Center is the hub of a broader Regional Mentor™ System that extends to 11 of the 16 SREB states and to a larger national system of Mentor™ sites. Mentor™ sites are Internet-based, student-centered web sites that provide students and their families with a simpler and friendlier way to select a college, apply for admission, and finance their college education. The Regional Mentor™ System interconnects these state sites through the The Teacher Center, providing users of the system with seamless access to both state, regional and national services, campus tours, online applications, career development tools, financial assistance, and other services quickly and conveniently.
The The Teacher Center and all Mentor™ sites that are part of the Regional Mentor™ System are secured sites. Personal data entered by the user for acquiring an account and for use in any online application is not released to any third parties without the user's express consent and direction. As with other Mentor™ systems, the The Teacher Center and the services available through the system are provided free of charge. The student will only pay the standard admission application fee charged directly by the college or university if an admission application is submitted.
