CAMPUS SUMMARY
You face a big decision when selecting the college which is right for you. You want a good education, of course, one which will prepare you for your future. But you also want the opportunity to work closely with excellent faculty and to build lasting friendships. At East Central University, we help every student achieve all of these goals. We may be a small university, but we have a huge effect on our students’ lives.

On our beautiful campus, located in the heart of Ada, Oklahoma, and within easy walking distance of many services, you will find modern facilities surrounded by attractive, well-lit grounds. The new state-of-the-art fine arts center is scheduled to open soon, adding to the recently constructed library and university center. Our campus is fully wired, with numerous computer labs open to students and with a wireless network available all over campus, including in the new living/learning communities which provide students with unique on-campus housing opportunities. Ada, a thriving, growing community, offers college students many off-campus diversions, such as movie theaters, clothing stores, bowling alleys, coffee shops, and Wintersmith Park, just to name a few.

At ECU, many academic opportunities are available to students. We offer professionally accredited, highly regarded degrees through the School of Business, College of Education and Psychology, College of Health and Sciences, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies. Our Nursing Department is among the best in the state, with more than 90% of ECU nursing students passing the state board exam over the past five years; our Cartography/Geography Department is one of only a few in the country; our elementary and secondary teachers are highly recruited for employment; and we are the only institution in Oklahoma (and one of only 21 nationally) that offers an accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health Science. We also are one of the three universities in the United States with an undergraduate medical physics degree.

As a student at ECU, you will enjoy the small class sizes, which normally range from 20-40 students per class, far smaller than larger universities. Smaller classes afford students more one-on-one time with faculty, so you can receive individual instruction, and they allow for more hands-on learning experiences. The friendly faculty and staff at ECU want to make sure that all students succeed and enjoy their college experience. As we strive to establish ECU as the premier student-centered university in Oklahoma, you will have the opportunity to interact with faculty outside of class and to attend additional educational events around the region and the country.

While you choose a college for the education you will receive, campus life is also very important at ECU. With over 70 different campus organizations to choose from, you have substantial opportunities to become involved. Events such as the Block Party, Crew Welcome Week, homecoming, musical and dramatic performances, resident life activities, and athletic functions occur on campus throughout the school year. With so many activities and events, everyone can easily find ways to get involved and to show their Tiger Pride.

East Central University is home to a diverse population from over 30 countries and every continent (except Antarctica), bringing a rich and varied cultural experience to campus. As students from around the world gather at ECU to experience Oklahoma culture and obtain their academic training, they also encourage local students’ understanding of other cultures and people, contributing to a well-rounded, global education for everyone.

The best education is about more than classes and grades; it’s about contributing to society in beneficial ways. To enhance this part of their education, ECU students are regularly involved with community service projects, including Habitat for Humanity, Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child, the Community Wide Thanksgiving Dinner (Sponsored by the Human Resource Club), Global Ada (recognizing a global citizen in Ada), Multi-Cultural Day Camp for Elementary School Children, Rotaract’s Night Around the World (a project to held reduce poverty around the world), Our Voices Together--Building a Safer More Compassionate a World, and many more.

Come visit our campus. We’re sure you will discover that East Central University is a great place to begin your journey to a bright new future.
