CAMPUS SUMMARY
Georgia College is Georgia’s public liberal arts university. It has become one of the southeast’s most competitive universities, with freshmen SAT scores and grade-point averages significantly higher than the national average. GC offers an educational experience usually found at elite private colleges, but at public university prices. The main campus occupies 43 acres in the heart of Milledgeville, Georgia’s former capital. The West Campus, located about two miles away, features student housing, athletic and recreational facilities, and outdoor and integrative education. With its blend of majestic red brick buildings and white Corinthian columns, the campus appeals to those seeking a classic academic environment in which to pursue a comprehensive academic program. Students live on campus and are mostly of traditional age. Living-Learning Communities give students who live in residence halls an opportunity to bond academically through clustered classes, field trips and service-learning projects. Students can choose from more than 200 registered clubs and organizations, and they are exposed to a myriad of community service and Study Abroad opportunities.

The Georgia House of Representatives founded the college in 1889 as a women’s college. In 1967, it became a regional, co-educational college, and by the 1970s, it had extended its reach of commuter campuses in the Middle Georgia area. In 1996, the university assumed its current name and was designated Georgia’s public liberal arts university. In 2001, GC was invited become a member of the prestigious Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, an organization of publicly funded institutions with a strong dedication to liberal arts. GC is a unit of the University System of Georgia.
