| CAMPUS SUMMARY |
 |
Wesleyan’s peaceful setting, complete with scenic Foster Lake, has the charm of a historic suburban campus. But our campus is actually just minutes away from the vibrant downtown nightlife of Macon, one of the most exciting cities in the South. When you come to Wesleyan, you get the best of both worlds.
Around 150,000 people live in Macon, Georgia’s third-largest city. The city has an amazing history, beginning in 12,000 BC, when primitive peoples inhabited the area, and stretching through the Colonial period, the Civil War and right up through rock ‘n’ roll. In fact, Macon’s history is so compelling that some students have come to Wesleyan just to study it!
But Macon is more than history. It’s the thoroughly modern home of four colleges, with plenty of restaurants, night spots, theaters, coffee houses, and events where you can meet other students. Wesleyan sponsors joint community service projects with Mercer University, Georgia College and State University, and Macon State. What better way to make new friends than to work side-by-side for a worthwhile cause? (By the way, those schools are coed. Yes, there are boys around in case you were worried.)
Macon’s pleasant climate means you can enjoy outdoor activities all year. There are public golf courses and a river walk in Macon, and lakes to the north and west of the city. Wesleyan’s Student Recreation Council sponsors camping and white-water rafting trips.
Because Macon is smack-dab in the middle of the state, there are a great number of attractions within an easy driving distance. Visit Atlanta and see Centennial Olympic Park, the site of the 1996 Olympics, go to a Braves game, or connect with students from Atlanta’s 30 colleges and universities. The mountains of north Georgia and the beaches of Saint Simons or Jekyll Island are also within a couple hours drive from Macon.
It’s easy to get to Wesleyan from any direction. There are regularly scheduled flights from many cities to Atlanta with a convenient van shuttle service to Macon. |
